Dear Community,
As summer winds down and we look ahead to fall, I want to invite you to a special tradition: our Community Block Party and BBQ, happening Thursday, August 21st from 4–7 PM on Orchard St at the former Osborn playfield.
This event is one of my favorites—not just for the great food and fun (though there will be plenty of both!), but because it reminds us of what makes Leavenworth truly remarkable: our people.
We’ll have over 40 local agencies and nonprofits on hand, sharing resources and stories about the work they do. Whether you’re new to town or have lived here for generations, you’ll likely discover something new and inspiring about the work being done right here in our community. It’s a chance to connect, learn, and celebrate the many hands that make Leavenworth thrive.
For the kids we’ll have a bouncy house and water slide feature—so bring your towels and sunscreen! Just a friendly heads-up: to keep everyone safe there will be a height limit for the bouncy house. There is also the new playground that was visible last year, but not yet useable. There will be music, games, and plenty of opportunities to just relax and enjoy each other’s company.
In a time when so much in the world seems designed to divide us, events like this are more important than ever. They remind us that community isn’t just a place—it’s a practice. It’s something we build together, moment by moment, handshake by handshake, shared laugh by shared story.
Leavenworth is a treasure. Not just for its beauty, but for its spirit. And that spirit shines brightest when we come together—not just in times of challenge, but in celebration. I hope you’ll join me and your neighbors on August 21st to do just that.
With gratitude and anticipation,
Carl Florea
