ATMOSPHERIC RIVER AND POWERFUL WINDS IMPACT LEAVENWORTH AND THE VILLAGE OF LIGHTS
Due to the significant and ongoing impact of recent weather events in Leavenworth, Washington, the Village of Lights display in Front Street Park for the Christmastown festival will not be illuminated this weekend.
Currently, the power grid is experiencing a wide-scale outage, impacting over 5,000 Chelan County residents, many of whom are within city limits. We also have extensive damage throughout our residential neighborhoods, including downed trees and power lines. Restoring power to critical medical resources and residents and not overtaxing the system when it comes back online is a primary concern. During this extended power outage, the Chamber will be assessing the damage to trees in Front Street Park and repairing the damage sustained to the lights due to the extreme wind, flying debris, and broken tree branches.
Multiple closures remain on city streets, county roads, and state highways, severely limiting accessibility to Leavenworth and leaving city crews unable to haul off the debris. Recent rising water levels on the Wenatchee and Icicle Rivers have inundated city infrastructure, leading to ongoing flooding concerns. Emergency services are actively responding to the storm’s aftermath.
Following an assessment during the day, City staff identified several damaged parking lots that are currently unable to accept vehicles. The loss of this capacity severely limits parking for those accessing the downtown area. In addition, access to vital hospitality resources, including local restaurants, food vendors, and delivery services, has been compromised due to the prolonged power outage and road closures.
The lack of power expected through Friday, and the resulting recovery needed through this weekend, means that the Christmastown events at the Gazebo and the lights in Front Street Park won’t be returning in force until next weekend.
“Leavenworth is known worldwide for its Willkommen spirit. Right now, we are prioritizing the safety and recovery of our community. We are facing unprecedented storm damage,” said Mayor Carl Florea. “We need some time to clear the debris and restore power to our homes and essential services. We deeply appreciate the support and understanding from our friends near and far. The lights and the welcome will be here through February, and we look forward to having you when we can do so.”

RÍO ATMOSFÉRICO Y FUERTES VIENTOS IMPACTAN A LEAVENWORTH Y A LA VILLA DE LUCES
Debido al considerable y contínuo impacto de recientes eventos climáticos en Leavenworth, Washington, el despliegue conocido como Villa de Luces (Village of Lights) ubicado en el Parque de la Calle Front Street como parte del festival navideño Christmastown no será iluminado este fin de semana.
Actualmente, el suministro de energía eléctrica está siendo afectado por un apagón de amplia magnitud, el cual ha impactado a más de 5.000 residentes del Condado de Chelan, muchos de quienes viven dentro de la ciudad de Leavenworth. También hemos sufrido severos daños a lo largo y ancho de nuestros sectores residenciales, incluyendo a árboles derrumbados y cables eléctricos caídos. Nuestra preocupación principal es la restauración de la energía eléctrica a nuestros recursos médicos vitales y a nuestros residentes, sin agotar nuestros sistemas cuando retorne la electricidad.
Durante este largo apagón, la Cámara estará evaluando el daño a los árboles en el Parque de la Calle Front Street, y reparando el daño sufrido por las luces debido a los fuertes vientos, los escombros que volaron por el aire y las ramas de los árboles que resultaron quebradas.
Varias calles de la ciudad, caminos del condado y carreteras estatales han sido cerradas, limitando seriamente el acceso a Leavenworth, e impidiendo que las cuadrillas de trabajadores municipales puedan retirar los escombros. Los crecientes niveles de agua observados recientemente en el río Wenatchee y en el río Icicle han inundado la infraestructura municipal, lo que ha causado que continúe nuestra preocupación ante la posibilidad de mayores inundaciones. Los servicios de emergencia están respondiendo en forma activa a las consecuencias de la tormenta.
Luego de haber evaluado la situación durante el día, el personal municipal identificó a varios estacionamientos que resultaron dañados y que en estos momentos no están en
condiciones de aceptar vehículos. La pérdida de esta capacidad limita seriamente el número de estacionamientos disponibles para las personas que quieran acceder al centro de la ciudad. Además, el acceso a recursos turísticos de vital importancia, como por ejemplo los restaurantes locales, los vendedores de comida y los servicios de distribución y reparto, ha sido afectado debido al prolongado apagón y los cierres de caminos.
La falta de energía eléctrica que se espera dure por lo menos hasta el viernes, junto con la etapa necesaria de recuperación, que se espera dure por lo menos todo el fin de semana, significa que los eventos del festival navideño Christmastown en la glorieta del parque, y las luces en el parque, no volverán en plenitud sino hasta el próximo fin de semana.
“La ciudad de Leavenworth es conocida en todo el mundo por su espíritu acogedor y de gran hospitalidad, de Willkommen,” dijo el alcalde de Leavenworth, Carl Florea, usando la palabra “bienvenidos” en alemán. “En estos momentos, nuestra prioridad es la seguridad y la recuperación de nuestra comunidad. Estamos enfrentando daños sin precedentes durante esta tormenta. Necesitamos tiempo para limpiar y retirar los escombros, para reestablecer la energía eléctrica en nuestros hogares y en nuestros servicios esenciales. Agradecemos profundamente el apoyo y la comprensión de nuestros amigos de todas partes. Las luces y nuestra hospitalidad estarán aquí hasta febrero y estamos ansiosos de tenerles de visita en cuanto podamos.”
