Effective immediately (7/16/2025), the Howard Hopkins Memorial Pool in Leavenworth, WA, is implementing a mandatory reusable cloth swim diaper policy for all swimmers aged four years and under (i.e., swimmers under 5 years old).
Mandatory Reusable Cloth Swim Diaper Policy for Swimmers 4 Years and Under (i.e., swimmers under 5). To ensure the health and safety of all our patrons and to maintain the cleanliness of the pool facilities, the Howard Hopkins Memorial Pool requires all children ages four (4) years and under (i.e., swimmers under 5 years old) to wear a reusable cloth swim diaper with a cover over all diapers. This policy is in accordance with our commitment to providing a safe and wholesome environment for recreational water activities.
Policy Details:
- Requirement: All children aged four (4) years and under (i.e., swimmers under 5 years old), regardless of potty-training status, must wear a snug-fitting, reusable cloth swim diaper. A cover is required over all diapers.
- Purpose: This measure is to prevent accidental fecal releases (AFRs) and subsequent pool closures, which are disruptive to our community and can pose health risks. Preventing contamination of the pool is a top priority.
- Prohibited: Disposable swim diapers are not permitted as the sole barrier. They may be worn underneath a reusable cloth swim diaper, but the reusable cloth swim diaper must be the outermost layer. A swimsuit is still required as the outermost layer.
- Diaper Changing: Changing of diapers on the pool deck is strictly prohibited. Please use the designated restroom facilities for all diaper changes.
- Health Guidelines: Swimmers who have had diarrhea or vomiting in the last two weeks are not allowed to enter the pool.
- Compliance: In addition to regularly scheduled breaks between programming, pool staff will be monitoring compliance with this policy. Non-compliance may result in removal from the facility.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for everyone.
