Leavenworth Substation Rebuild

The Leavenworth Substation consists of aging equipment that has reached the end of its useful life and cannot be replaced or repaired. Currently, this is the only substation in the City of Leavenworth. In order to continue providing reliable electric service, Chelan PUD is proposing to build a new substation adjacent to the existing station. The old substation will then be decommissioned and removed.

Chelan PUD will be performing surveys and studies on the property to support environmental permitting requirements. They will inform adjacent property owners of activities taking place on the Chelan PUD owned property.

New Bavarian Substation

Chelan County PUD has been working with the community since 2015 to construct a new substation and associated transmission lines to serve the Leavenworth area. The existing double-bank substation serving the area is nearing capacity. In May 2017, the PUD, along with community input, selected a site at the intersection of North Road and Chumstick Highway for the new substation.

Why is the PUD doing this work:

  • A new substation will accommodate increasing electricity demand.
  • The Bavarian Substation will provide redundancy and flexibility during outages and maintenance.
  • Ease the existing load on the Leavenworth Substation

What’s included:

  • One 28 MVA transformer, with room to accommodate a second transformer in the future.
  • New transmission and distribution lines to deliver power to homes and businesses.
  • Landscaping.
